| It feels like ages since Solstice, and no time at all. I just surfaced and got back to work yesterday and felt quite jolly, strangely. I had an excellent time over Christmas, away with 20-or so friends, sitting in front of log fires, feasting like lords, and making our own entertainment, no telly at all. It felt like a fantasy Christmas, great long tables loaded with food and drink, mistletoe and holly hung throughout, laughter everywhere, songs and giggles and groans - what was probably my first real 'family' Christmas ever. And a superb Misrule party on 24th where we all went as someone completely different. I had a great time playing with blue facepaints in the bathroom and turned up as Boudicca Queen of the Iceni, with a very see through top on and the most fantastic pair of hairy yeti boots I've ever seen. And man, we shifted some mead. Must have been about a gallon of the bloody stuff we knocked back.
After such a great Christmas it felt a bit flat coming back, so I've just been skulking about the house and taking the rare opportunity to lie about in bed for most of the day. I finally got round to re-reading OotP after my mammoth two-day speed read at Summer Solstice. I was surprised that really enjoyed it, although I still feel its quite bloated here and there. I got round to thinking about Dumbledore's 'too deep for the healing' comment in the light of the Snape's worst memory chapter again. I remember feeling, the first time I read it, that bad though Snape's experiences undoubtedly were, Dumbledore's comment didn't feel quite 'right' to me, too grave even for that. So these thoughts, plus unadulterated sloth and wierd quietness combined to make me feel a little odd, and this is the result. ( What Lies Beneath ) Thanks to luthien for giving it the onceover for me. | comments: 16 comments or Leave a comment |

| Thank you to mimine for the lovely rec for That Which Does Not Kill Me. I've just finished reading the other rec, debchan's What He Wants. I'm just blown away. I'm in pain. Arrrrrrrgh. Beautiful. That hurt so much. Post OotP with a storyline woven strongly into the events in the book, believable characterizations, razorsharp dialogue, taut, stretched emotions and a twist in the gut at the end. Oh gods, just go and read it. | comments: 1 comment or Leave a comment |
